Our practice is dedicated to helping our patients identify the cause of their pain and creating a custom treatment program that will allow them to return to normal activities pain-free.

 

Before Your First Visit

  • Make a list of questions that you have to discuss on your first visit.
  • List signs and symptoms that can be of importance to our physician or physical therapist.
  • Have in writing key past medical history, previous treatments, current medications, and other important information.
  • Please call our office to verify your insurance benefits.
  • Fill out the patient forms to the best of your ability before coming in.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment.
  • Bring with you a copy of your insurance card and a photo ID.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

  • You will register with our friendly front office staff. They will help you navigate the insurance process and treatment program so you can focus on your recovery.
  • Depending on the type of your visit, you will either meet with your physician or physical therapist for the initial evaluation.
  • During the evaluation, our provider will ask questions about your medical history, current pain, or injury. Open communication helps us understand your problem.
  • Your health, movement, strength, coordination, and much more will be evaluated. Our purpose is to help you, so please ensure to communicate if anything is hurting or bothering you during the examination.
  • Your physical therapist will recommend and prepare a course of treatments to ensure the quickest recovery and the best results and will discuss the recommendations with you.

On initial physical therapy visit:

  • there will be some treatments performed on the first day to get you started on your road to recovery. However, during the next visit, you will get into the full swing of your treatment plan.
  • You will schedule your series of visits with the front desk. The amount of therapy needed will be discussed with you, depending on the recommendations of your physical therapist. We offer many convenient appointment times, however, prime times can become busy, so it is best to book ahead as much as possible.
  • Your physical therapist will write up their findings and treatment plan to submit to your referring physician or another medical professional whom you choose.

Meet our Amazing Team

Caroline Wilson, DPT, OCS

DPT: University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA

BS: Biology, California State University at Long Beach

Certified: Orthopedic Clinical Specialist

Credentialed: APTA Clinical Instructor

Caroline has lived in Southern California since 1971. She graduated with a BS in Biology and Chemistry from California State University, Long Beach and earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from USC. She has specialized in orthopedic rehabilitation since graduating in 2002 and serves as a Certified Clinical Instructor training and mentoring physical therapy students from numerous local universities.

Caroline is an avid softball player and competitive triathlete, having qualified for the Ironman World Championships held in Kona, Hawaii in 2017 and 2019.

“I have always been fascinated by the human body and how it functions. Physical therapy reminds me that each client and situation is different. So I am constantly changing treatment protocols, updating my skills and keeping open to new ideas and techniques to meet my patients’ unique needs.”

Lizz Cherry, DPT

DPT: University of Rhode Island

BS: Kinesiology from Westmont College

In addition to providing excellent care to our patients with orthopedic injuries, Lizz has expertise in treating concussions and vestibular disorders. Lizz completed her undergraduate studies at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, graduating with a BS in Kinesiology, and then went on to physical therapy school, earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Rhode Island. Lizz received the 2011 URI Research Excellence Award, for her research on lateral epicondylitis, a chronic overuse injury commonly known as “tennis elbow.”

Lizz lives in the city of Orange with her husband and two children. She enjoys volunteering at her children’s school, running, going to the beach, and scrapbooking.

Heather Burbridge, PTA

Heather is an Orange County native and graduated from UC San Diego in 2012 with a BS in Neuroscience. At UCSD, she was an NCAA DII athlete in cross county and track and field. In 2017, she completed her physical therapy assistant degree at Cerritos college. Heather developed a passion at an early age for helping others return to their daily activities post-injury. In her free time, Heather enjoys camping with her family and being outdoors.

Margaret Ha, MS ATC

Margaret was born and raised on the small island of Guam in the Pacific. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training at the University of La Verne. Next, she earned her master’s degree at California State University, Fullerton. While in graduate school, Margaret taught anatomy and physiology labs and lectures to undergraduate students at the university and served as a graduate assistant to the CSUF Athletic Training Program. During that time, she also conducted concussion research and presented her work at multiple conferences. Margaret currently provides athletic training coverage for several local soccer clubs, as well as the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) for the West Region.

Cory McBean, CSCS, CPT

BSc: Kinesiology, California State University Fullerton, CA

Certified: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), Certified Personal Trainer (NASM), TRX Class Instructor

Cory graduated from Cal State Fullerton University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in strength and conditioning. He attained his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification from the NSCA and Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification from NASM. Cory was born and raised in Orange County and has a passion for all sports, especially hockey and has played both roller and ice hockey since he was 7 years old. Cory also played lacrosse for Foothill High School, winning a CIF championship in 2008. Cory’s passion in the sports industry is for increasing the fitness levels of athletes and to do so while minimizing their risk for injury. He also enjoys training non-athletes to help them achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Sarah Wisher

Sarah Wisher has been teaching Pilates since 2012 and is a certified instructor with both Balanced Body and Pilates Method Alliance. She recently completed her bachelors of science degree in Gerokinesiology at California State University, Fullerton. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys making soap, gardening, and is learning to ice skate.

Anthony DeMonaco, DPT

Anthony received his bachelor’s degree in economics from California State University of Sacramento in 2007.  Shortly after he graduated, he discovered this was not his true professional calling. Having a lifelong interest in how the human body works and a passion for helping others reach their optimal function, Anthony went back to school and earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Loma Linda University in 2018.

During his free time, Anthony enjoys cooking, gardening, traveling, fitness, hiking, going to the movies, and taking care of his four “kids” (dogs).

Mike Adams, MS, PTA, JSCC

Mike is a native Californian and has lived in Orange since 1974. He is a graduate of Chapman University with a Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and Sports Medicine and is a Certified Athletic Trainer.

Mike has an extensive background in physical therapy with a specialty in manual therapy. He is certified by the Jones Institute in the Osteopathic technique of Strain-Counterstrain, which is used to decrease pain and dysfunction within the body. There are very few certified Strain-Counterstrain practitioners (an estimated 100 practitioners nationwide), and SCAR is proud to have Mike on our team. He is also an advanced myofascial release practitioner with more than 15 years of experience. Mike teaches Strain-Counterstrain at many local universities including Chapman, University of La Verne, and Azuza Pacific University.

“My specialty is manual therapy, and many of my patients suffer from complicated, hard-to-treat conditions, including complex spinal issues. I enjoy helping people get better, which improves their lives.”

Jeff Lynch, PTA

Jeff received his BS from California State University of Fullerton in 2011 with an emphasis on Athletic Training. It was there that he developed a passion for physical therapy and strength and conditioning. Jeff completed his physical therapy assistant program at Concorde College in 2014.  He is currently studying to achieve his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification (CSCS).

Jeff was born in Chicago where he was a gymnast and soccer player in high school. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and traveling abroad.

Compassionate and dedicated to his patients, Jeff has an amazing work ethic and is focused on providing both great customer service and high-quality care.

Kelly Berardini, MHA, ATC

Kelly joined the SCAR team as our Operations Manager in 2016. She is a board certified athletic trainer with a unique range of clinical, administrative, and academic experiences in various settings, including hospital systems, collegiate, high school, and performing arts sports medicine.

Before coming to SCAR, Kelly served as a faculty member in Chapman University’s nationally renowned Athletic Training Education Program where she instructed several undergraduate courses, built relationships with affiliated clinical preceptor sites, and spearheaded program marketing activities.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in athletic training at Chapman with a dance minor, Kelly was Head

Athletic Trainer at Western High School in Anaheim. She then launched the athletic training and injury prevention program at Disneyland. During her six-year tenure as Head Athletic Trainer at the theme park, she coordinated care for more than 1,000 Entertainment Division cast members. After she completed her master’s degree in healthcare administration at Chapman, graduating summa cum laude in 2001, Kelly served as Marketing and Public Relations Manager at Anaheim Memorial Medical Center.

Kelly lives in Orange with her husband and son and enjoys her family’s participation with local youth sports organizations. “My son says that I’m the best team mom ever!”

Leo Cruz, CSCS, CES

BS: Kinesiology, California State University, San Bernardino, CA

Certified: Massage Therapist, Southern California School of Massage, Riverside, CA; Strength and Conditioning Specialist, NSCA; TRX Class Instructor; Corrective Exercise Specialist, NASM

Leo received his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from California State University, San Bernardino. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and a Certified TRX™ trainer. He is also a licensed massage therapist.

A California native, Leo has trained a broad range of athletes, including many triathletes seeking optimal performance goals by conducting VO2 max tests, designing individualized strength training regimens, and assisting with biomechanical running evaluations. Leo has participated in numerous triathlons and half marathons across Southern California. He also has coached youth basketball and volunteered with the Special Olympics.

“I became intrigued by PT after suffering a knee injury playing college football. I love getting up every morning knowing that I’m here to make people feel better about themselves. It’s an honor knowing that people come to me in the hope of reaching higher ground. It’s my mission to help them get there.”

Erin Stone

Erin currently serves both as SCAR’s Clinic Assistant– working with our front office and fitness center staff– and as our Nutrition Consultant. In 2014, she graduated cum laude from California State University, Fullerton with a BS in Health Science, concentration in Public Health. Erin completed her certification in Holistic Nutrition and has a life-long passion for healthy eating and wellness. An Orange County native, Erin enjoys spending time with her family and friends, hiking, and creating new recipes. Her mission is to encourage others to use proper nutrition to help improve their overall well-being and to assist them in achieving their goals.
